Indiana Pacers Owner Herb Simon named a Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024 finalist

Simon has owned the Pacers for 41 years

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon is a Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024 Finalist. The honor was announced on Friday in Lucas Oil Stadium as a part of multiple Hall Of Fame announcements.

It was revealed in December that Simon was a nominee for the honor. He purchased the Pacers in 1983 and has been the majority owner of the team every year since. He and his son, Steve, both have key roles with the franchise.

"Herb is the longest tenured governor in the history of the NBA," Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said last year. "His acts of philanthropy are legendary, and he's a guy that doesn't ever seek attention. So this is very well deserved for him."

Simon, 89, is a finalist in the contributor category. He was the head man for Indiana for both the 1985 and currently ongoing 2024 NBA All-Star weekends, a perfectly timed full-circle moment with All-Star weekend currently taking place in Indianapolis.

IPer a previous Hall Of Fame announcement, the entire class of 2024 inductees will be revealed at the NCAA Final Four in early April. It will be a nationally televised broadcast. Enshrinement will take place in August.

"We talk about the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as representing all of basketball," Jerry Colangelo, who is the chairman on the board of governors for Basketball Hall of Fame, said at the event.

Indiana has reached the postseason 26 times since Simon purchased the franchise. They reached the NBA Finals in 2000 and have been to the Eastern Conference Finals seven times. The Pacers franchise is valued at $2.8 billion in Forbes.
