Tyrese Haliburton out for Indiana Pacers next three games, head coach Rick Carlisle shares

The Pacers will be without their star guard for three more games at least

During a weekly radio interview this morning with The Wake Up Call with KB & Andy on 107.5 The Fan in Indianapolis, Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle announced that star guard Tyrese Haliburton will miss the Pacers next three games due to injury management with his hamstring.

"We're going to sit him for the next three games," Carlisle said. "We'll see where he's at on Saturday."

Haliburton suffered a Grade 1 left hamstring strain on January 8 against the Boston Celtics. He was expected to be re-evaluated after the Pacers six-game road trip, which just ended on Sunday night in Phoenix.

But Haliburton believed that he was ahead of schedule in his rehab. Since he traveled with Indiana on their road trip, he was able to return earlier than expected and suited up vs the Portland Trail Blazers last Friday.

While Haliburton played well — he had 21 points and 17 assists without a turnover — he was clearly grimacing at times during the game. It's unknown if that is specifically related to his hamstring injury.

Two days later, he sat out in Phoenix due to left hamstring strain injury management. That will continue going forward.

"Our training staff wasn't comfortable with how he responded to that," Carlisle said of the game in Portland. The re-evaluation will be next weekend and will determine if Sunday's game is a possibility.

The Pacers host the Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Phoenix Suns in the next four days for their next three home games. They then have one day off before hosting the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday. Haliburton's status will be updated as the week progresses.

Indiana is 24-19 this season but is 20-14 when Haliburton suits up. They have been better than last year without their star guard, but they still need him for sustained success, especially against such a tough run of opponents. They'll hope to tread water this week in his absence.
