Pelicans Prepare for NBA Summer League Action

The New Orleans Pelicans begin preparing for the 2023 NBA Summer League action with a practice at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center.

The New Orleans Pelicans are preparing for the 2023 NBA Summer League action with a practice at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center on Wed., July 5.  Assistant coach Casey Hill will be the Summer League head coach leading the 13 players in Las Vegas.

First-round picks Jordan Hawkins (2023) and Dyson Daniels (2022) will participate with the other roster players.  Keep an eye on forwards E.J. Liddell (2022 2nd-Rd pick), Kamaka Hepa (Hawaii), Garrison Brooks (Miss. State), and Landers Noley II (Cincy), as well as center Liam Robbins (Vanderbilt), and Karlo Matkovic (Bosnia).  Last season, Liddell had an ACL injury in the Pelicans' first game of the 2022 NBA Summer League.

Pelicans Summer League Roster - 2023

New Orleans will have its Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves at 3:30 PM CT at Cox Pavillion, with NBA TV broadcasting the event.  On July 9, Game 2 will feature the Golden State Warriors at Thomas & Mack for a 9:00 PM CT broadcast on ESPN2.  Game 3 (7:00 PM CT/ESPN2) against the Suns on July 11 and Game 4 (6:30 PM CT/NBA TV) versus the Phoenix Suns will be held at COX Pavillion.

Should the Pelicans qualify for a Game 5, it will take place on either July 15 or 16, with a later date and location to be determined.

The NBA 2K24 Summer League format is as follows:

  • Number of Games: A total of 76 games will be played. Each team will play at least five games, with four of those games being played from July 7-14.
  • Four-Team Tournament: After each team plays four games, the top four will advance to the playoffs and participate in a semifinal game (July 16).   The two winners of semifinal play will advance to the championship game (July 17). The top four playoff seeds will be determined by winning percentage with tiebreakers that can be found here.
  • Consolation Games: The 26 teams that do not advance to Summer League playoffs will play a fifth and final game on either July 15 or July 16.
  • The games will be held in four 10-minute quarters.
  • The foul limit is 10 per player, with a team penalty of 10 fouls per half.
  • Watch out for the new "flopping rule," which will be initiated during the Summer League contests.
