With the All-Star break nearly in the rearview, the Detroit Pistons are focusing on the continued development of their young core players while focusing on the future.

In a few months, Detroit will get an opportunity to add another exciting high-end prospect in the mix as they are on pace to gain another high draft pick in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

According to ESPN’s latest mock draft, they landed in the second spot, placing behind their Eastern Conference enemy, the Washington Wizards.

Who’s the Pick for the Pistons?

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo mocked an entire scenario for the upcoming draft. With the second-overall pick, the Pistons select a familiar International prospect, Alex Sarr.

The Perth Wildcats center has been near the top of many analysts’ draft boards in recent months. As the 18-year-old finishes strong overseas, he anticipated becoming a top-five pick. With Detroit frequently getting linked to the big man, there’s a scenario where Sarr goes top-two.

Recently, Sarr wrapped up the regular season for the Wildcats and had a significant NBA presence in attendance, according to a report. Considering the Pistons have a high draft pick coming their way, they were likely to have somebody in attendance to check out the big man, who put together an impressive stat line of 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in just 21 minutes.

Potential Pistons Pick Draws Big NBA Presence

Although Sarr plays overseas, he’s no stranger to hooping in the States. Prior to joining the Perth Wildcats, he spent time in the Overtime Elite league. During the 2022-2023 season, Sarr posted 11 points and six rebounds per game in the regular season.

When the Overtime playoffs rolled around, he averaged eight points and five rebounds. He helped lead the YNG Dreamerz to the OTE Championship before they fell short against the City Reapers.

The Pistons will return from the All-Star break with an 8-46 record, which places them last in the Eastern Conference. The Wizards are right in front of them with a 9-45 record. ESPN projects the Wizards will win the lottery, gaining the top pick. Even in the event the Pistons drop to two, or come out on top with No. 1, they could go for Sarr regardless, as he’s become the popular pick for the Pistons so far.
