San Antonio Spurs Ex Quinndary Weatherspoon Signs with Los Angeles Lakers

Former San Antonio Spurs guard Quinndary Weatherspoon is signing with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Former San Antonio Spurs guard Quinndary Weatherspoon is signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, per reports Thursday from NBA insider Chris Haynes.

"Los Angeles Lakers are signing guard Quinndary Weatherspoon, his agent Daniel Hazan tells @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport," Haynes tweeted. "Weatherspoon averaged 15.5 points, shot 52 percent and 40 percent from distance in two NBA preseason games while playing for Israeli club Maccabee Ra’anana."

Weatherspoon, 27, was the 49th overall pick by the Spurs in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Mississippi State. In two seasons with San Antonio, he played in 31 games while averaging 1.9 points per contest. In the Spurs' 140-103 loss to the Phoenix Suns on May 15, 2021, Weatherspoon posted a career-best 13 points on 5 of 12 shooting in 28 minutes off the bench.

He then signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Golden State Warriors in Oct. 2021 before being waived and brought back to the team multiple times over the next year.

But all this time with the Warriors paid off, as Weatherspoon has an NBA Championship on his resume after Golden State won it all in 2022. During that season, he appeared in 11 games and averaged 2.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 6.6 minutes per game. This points-per-game average remains the highest of his career up to this point.

Weatherspoon will now look to provide depth to a Lakers team that's coming off an appearance in the Western Conference Finals last season. The Spurs and Lakers will have their first matchup of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 13 in San Antonio.
