Spurs vs. Hawks: 3 Best Bets

After losing to the Chicago Bulls, the San Antonio Spurs hit the road to take on the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks have been the victims of several trade rumors as they lose games, including potentially trading All-Star guard Dejounte Murray back to the Spurs.

The Spurs lost their last game without Victor Wembanyama, but have been trending upwards. They are winning more, keeping games close, and everyone on the roster seems to be playing better with the addition of Tre Jones. Despite that, the Spurs are heavy underdogs this afternoon.

The Spurs will be without Charles Bassey, Zach Collins, and Sidy Cissoko. Doug McDermott is questionable. Atlanta has Mouhamed Gueye, De’Andre Hunter, Vit Krejci, and Wesley Matthews all out.

The Lines

Point spread: Hawks -8.5 (-110)/Spurs +8.5 (-118)

Moneyline: Hawks (-345)/Spurs (+260)

Over/under: 246.5

Our Picks

Safe pick: Victor Wembanyama OVER 20.5 points (-118)

Wembanyama didn’t play in the last game and will be very, very fresh, and the Hawks (or anyone) doesn’t have an answer for him on defense. Since Tre Jones got paired with Wemby, he has been averaging 23.3 points, so his hitting this over shouldn’t be too hard.

Opponent pick: Trae Young OVER 28.5 points (-118)

Trae Young is always a scoring threat, and the Spurs are no stranger when it comes to allowing shooting threats an opportunity to go off. He scored a season-high 45 points earlier this year in San Antonio. While we don’t expect him to crack 40 again, he will light up the Spurs’ perimeter defense, and get himself to the free-throw line with ease.

Spurs vs. Atlanta Hawks GAMEDAY Preview: How to Watch, Betting Odds, Injury Report

High-risk parlay pick: Tre Jones OVER 10.5 points, Victor Wembanyama OVER 11.5 rebounds, Devin Vassell OVER 1.5 threes made, Spurs to win (+1050)

Bold enough? Wembanyama hasn’t really been on a rebounding tear recently, but he has shown that he can crash the boards with the best of them, getting 12 in his last game against the Hawks. Tre Jones is averaging 16.6 points as a starter and has only scored under this line once, plus will be defended by Trae Young, which isn’t saying much. Devin Vassell is coming off a horrible shooting night, but is still the best shooter in the starting lineup, and is usually good for multiple threes. Finally, we have the Spurs winning, which is by far the biggest odds-booster in this parlay. Everything is clicking for the Spurs, and the Hawks have lost two straight.
