Phoenix Suns Could Swoop Warriors GM Bob Myers

With reports swirling that Bob Myers may be on his way out of Golden State, would it be a good move for the Phoenix Suns to pursue his services?

The Phoenix Suns may not only be looking to fill their vacant head coach position, as a new development could lead to the organization making a drastic move in the front office.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Golden State Warriors general manager and president of basketball operations Bob Myers have had no substantial contract extension talks in months, and the sides are bracing for the likelihood that Myers could walk away from the franchise.

Myers has been with the Warriors since 2011, guiding the team to four NBA  championships on top of another two appearances in the NBA Finals.

During his time as general manager, Myers has made some spectacular moves including hiring Steve Kerr and signing Kevin Durant back in 2016 when he was a free agent. That of course was on top of helping assemble the powerhouse team that welcomed Durant before his arrival.

Back in January, there was some speculation that the Suns could be interested in Myers services.

"But where might he go? According to sources close to the situation, Washington, Phoenix, and New York are all worth monitoring as possibilities," said The Athletic.

The Suns already have James Jone,s who is both the general manager and president of basketball operations so adding Myers would be an interesting fit. Owner Mat Ishbia has expressed no desire to let go of Jones - so where does Myers fit?

Since taking over the organization, Ishbia has been very hands-on, which has limited Jones’ role.

Ishbia has also been aggressive in trying to land big names to come to the Valley. Almost immediately following his introductory press conference Ishbia traded for Durant in what was one of the biggest trades in the last decade.

It also seems Ishbia is trying to create a new culture in Phoenix. Following the Suns’ elimination in the second round, he fired head coach Monty Williams. While Jones has not been relieved of his duties, you could always count on Ishbia to make big moves if they are deemed an upgrade.

Many believe Myers to be one of the best general managers in all of basketball, so the move would definitely fit.
