Report: Kevin Durant Would Rather Retire Than Play for Nets

Would Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant really rather retire than play for the organization again? NBA insider Marc Stein says one league executive believes so.
“During summer league in Las Vegas, one of the most well-connected team executives I speak to regularly insisted to me that, based on what he was hearing, Kevin Durant was more apt to retire than play again for the Brooklyn Nets," said Stein in a recent report.
”I told the tipster that I simply couldn't believe that. I was a loyal subscriber to the theory that Durant the Hooper loves playing basketball way too much to adopt such a stance.“
It's unclear if things have changed since then, but a recent meeting with Nets owner Joe Tsai demanding the dismissal of general manager Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash suggests his stance hasn't moved.
Teams such as the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers were just some of the teams that have reportedly shown significant interest in acquiring Durant.
The Nets have been adamant in their demands for a significant package for their star player. Little traction for a deal has been made to this point.
Many analysts and insiders believed Durant would begin the season in Brooklyn.
Is this just an attempted power move by Durant to further push the front office and apply pressure to trade him? Or is very serious?
Plenty of basketball remains in the tank for the soon to be 34-year-old scorer. We'll see if that transpires in Phoenix, Brooklyn or anywhere else, if at all.
