Suns Say They're Far Ahead of Last Season's Training Camp

Both Monty Williams and Devin Booker believe the Suns look locked and ready to go, at least in conditioning.

Through their short time in training camp, the Phoenix Suns believe they're much further along than last season.

"We're so far ahead of even where we were last year," said head coach Monty Williams.

The Suns, working with a much extended offseason than last year, can benefit from the break between seasons:

"Both offensively and defensively, we've been able to add a lot of stuff, or input a lot of stuff, that we already had in. We've been able to push it a bit because guys are familiar," Williams said.

"We've played more in this camp than any camp I've ever been involved with. We've played five-on-five Day 1. We got after it. Today we scrimmaged probably for three quarters if I'm not mistaken, I may have the times off but we've scrimmaged a lot.

"So from that standpoint it's been good for us. I think guys are going to be in much better shape going into the season because we've played a lot."

If it were up to shooting guard Devin Booker, that's similar to how he'd run a training camp:

"That's how I would start training camp; Five-on-five, lets get after it. Bring some refs in here and get after it," said Booker with a smile on his face.

"It's an exciting time. Preseason and training camp have shortened so much to where you have to come in ready. I think a lot of our guys know that, and through our short time of getting up and down, everybody looks in shape and everybody looks ready to go.

"I feel good (as far as condition goes) … We have a competitive group all the way through and that's what we've been doing: Just pushing each other and I think that's how you get your wind back."

The Suns have their first preseason test on Sunday when the Adelaide 36ers (Australian NBL team) come to town.
