PHOENIX -- Former Phoenix Suns forward Ish Wainright - now with the Portland Trail Blazers - suffered a MCL sprain and will be out for 4-6 weeks according to the team.

Wainright was a fan favorite during his stint with the Suns thanks to his easygoing personality and appearances as a role player.

He signed with Portland back in late October and the Trail Blazers were slated to play Phoenix next week.

Wainright has played in just two games for Portland thus far with 2.5 minutes averaged per game. He joined fellow former Suns Deandre Ayton and Toumani Camara in Portland.

Ahead of the season, the Suns waived Wainright but hoped to bring him back.

"We’re hoping to bring him back,” Phoenix head coach Frank Vogel said. “We’re big on Ish Wainright, we’re believers in him.”

In two years with Phoenix, he averaged 3.4 points per contest and started just two of the 105 total games he played for the Suns.

Portland is just 3-9 on the season thus far while Phoenix is 6-6. The two sides will play each other next Tuesday as the Suns host the Trail Blazers for an NBA In-Season Tournament group match.
