The Phoenix Suns finally pulled the trigger on Kevin Durant despite flirting with him over the summer.

The move now shifts him next to guys such as Chris Paul, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton with strong bench players at their disposal, too.

The Suns appear locked and loaded to make a serious run at what would be their first NBA Finals title in franchise history. They came close two years ago before following up with their greatest regular season to date with 64 wins.

With a deep luxury tax bill and starting lineup full of All-Stars and accolades alike, the Suns will continue to explore adding serious talent to their roster beyond this season according to Yahoo's Jake Fischer.

"However Phoenix fares, the Suns are too pot-committed and seem far too eager to spend under the aggressive ownership of new team governor Mat Ishbia for Phoenix not to search for further artillery ahead of next season," said Fischer.

"The Suns approached the Nets about trading for Kyrie Irving once the All-Star point guard asked out of Brooklyn, sources confirmed to Yahoo Sports, and there were rumblings around the league that Phoenix was hoping to somehow land both Irving and Durant.

"That’s not just a window into another present reality. A future reunification of Durant and Irving with the Suns will loom on the periphery of both Phoenix and Dallas’ stretch runs. Phoenix had already contacted rival teams about other ball-handlers on the February trade market, sources said, and were one team that was expected by league personnel to pursue Fred VanVleet if he truly reaches unrestricted free agency this summer.

"Some future, at some point in Phoenix with Booker still at the controls, seems guaranteed to not feature Paul at his side, and that clock has now certainly started to dwindle. Durant’s addition could mitigate some concern of relying on Paul’s table-setting and maybe even extend the point guard’s career. Or Durant's arrival, and elevated expectations for a team that was already a title hopeful, could leave the Suns more actively exploring contingency plans beyond Paul at point guard this offseason."

Fischer's words confirm a few earlier reports from The Athletic's Shams Charania on Phoenix's interest in Kyrie Irving and their desire to find a future beyond Chris Paul sooner rather than later.

New days are here in Phoenix, and new ownership seems to mean business. We'll see what unfolds this season, but the Suns might not be done making splash moves.
