NBA Mock Trade: Thunder Acquire Former OKC Superstar Kevin Durant

A look at theoretical deals to bring Kevin Durant back to Oklahoma City.

With the Phoenix Suns donning a 14-15 record, superstar Kevin Durant could again be on the move after reported “frustration” via ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

With a treasure trove of prospects and assets, the OKC Thunder of course be mentioned in potential trades.

While we’ve established that a reunion between the two isn’t likely, let’s at least look at what the theoretical trade might actually be:

Option No. 1: The Thunder and Suns Make a Deal

With Devin Booker currently still under superstar status, and a Suns lifer as far as we know, Phoenix will doubtfully want to take on project players, meaning OKC would likely have to give up a player in its immediate core.

While that will make the deal as a whole less "costly," there’s close to no chance it happens as Jalen Williams would be the first and potentially last ask.

Durant’s $47 million contract also complicates things, meaning Lu Dort would almost assuredly have to be involved from a financial standpoint.

Oklahoma City gets: Kevin Durant

Phoenix gets: Jalen Williams, Luguentz Dort, Davis Bertans, Vasilije Micic

Again, an extremely unlikely deal as Williams has been pivotal to OKC's near-contention in the first place. But without his inclusion, the Suns probably move onto the next caller.

Option No. 2: A Third Team Gets Involved

A much more likely option would be a third team looking for a change gets involved. There’s numerous teams who could fit this bill, including Chicago, Toronto, even Cleveland and more.

Oklahoma City gets: Kevin Durant

Toronto gets: Cason Wallace, Luguentz Dort, Sixers 2025 FRP

Phoenix gets: OG Annunoby, Davis Bertans, Vasilije Micic, Clippers 2024 FRP, Thunder 2026 FRP

Toronto could be in the market to make a change, and Wallace, Dort and picks would give them a great starting point alongside Scottie Barnes. Phoenix gets solid win-now pieces to keep next to Booker, and OKC makes it out with Durant, keeping Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams and Chet Holmgren intact.
