The Thunder's standout rookie had one of his best performances on the season on Wednesday night versus the Jazz.

Chet Holmgren logged a near career-high 35 points on a mere 18 shots with 14 rebounds, coupled with his defensive impact of three blocks and two steals. This effort helped Oklahoma City reach its 48th win on the season, getting them one step closer to their first 50-win season in almost a decade.

Of course, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's typical 30-plus points wedged itself in there, as he recorded his 50th game this season of 30 or more points, having 31 in the win.

And after their win inside Paycom Center, Gilgeous-Alexander had a lot to say about his rookie forward.

On how Holmgren was able to navigate to the rim so often, Gilgeous-Alexander said, "Chet being talented, and then they were up on pick-and-rolls... he can shoot, has really good touch, can pass, so he had a field day.

"It just speaks to his work, his talent level, he's a really good guy."

That level of talent on display was on a heightened level from the potential that we'd all witnessed this season. This type of performance where Holgmren can show his ability to take over and help close out a game is another step in his maturation and recognition as a true two-way threat on this team.

He hasn't had to go about it the easy way though, as his role, own energy levels and competitive nature require him to always have his impact on the ball, which in turn can get him into some pretty roughed up situations.

"His nose is in every play, literally" Gilgeous-Alexander added, "... tries to block every shot. Blocks most of them, affects most of them. He literally puts his face on the line 90% of the game and that's why we see him sacrificing his situation."

Holmgren's infectious energy will be needed down a tough remainder of the season for Oklahoma City as they hope to stand tall in sole possession of the one seed in the Western Conference.
