We’ve reached the part of the off-season where die-hard NBA fans are yearning for content. As Pro-Am runs and summer workouts start to heat up, eyes were on the Crawsover League on Saturday night, Jamal Crawford’s league.

The stars were out, as many big NBA names had pledged to play this weekend. LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Dejounte Murray, Paolo Banchero and Oklahoma City’s own, Chet Holmgren, were some of the high-profile athletes suiting up Saturday.

It was clear the event had picked up steam popularity wise when Crawford tweeted out each of the top players attending. Most tweets generated plenty of love and attention from NBA fans dying to see stars play. It was also notable to see the interest and excitement spark in Seattle, a former NBA city.

Crawford’s Crawsover League has become a premier Pro-Am basketball league, and has been recognized for recruiting the top stars in the NBA to play in front of local fans. Saturday however, turned out to be somewhat of a disaster.

For all fans in attendance, the night was cut short, but for Thunder fans, the night was almost over before it started. Holmgren contested LeBron’s fast break attempt and tweaked an ankle coming down. It didn’t look like a severe injury, and Holmgren is likely just fine, but he quickly exited the game and never returned. It was a bummer for fans expecting to see Holmgren challenge the NBA’s best.

After Holmgren went down, the game continued for only a quarter longer. Crawford and the people in charge of the league decided to end the highly-anticipated matchup before halftime as the conditions on the court weren’t up to par. There was reported condensation on the court, which led to players tripping and sliding on consecutive possessions.

It's disappointing for NBA fans itching to see stars back in action, but keeping the players safe was the right move. The weekend ultimately didn't live up to expectations, but if an ankle roll is the worst thing to come out of it, that's considered a win. Hopefully Crawford continues to push the need of basketball in communities without an NBA team.
