The Oklahoma City Thunder's preseason schedule has been announced. On Thursday, the team announced a matchup against the Detroit Pistons in Montreal, Canada on Oct. 12, a homecoming game for Thunder forward Lu Dort. The team's superstar, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is also a Canadian native.

The Thunder will take on the Pistons twice in preseason, as they will play each other in the BOK Center in Tulsa on Oct. 19, which wraps up preseason basketball for Oklahoma City.

Basketball officially returns when the Thunder takes on the San Antonio Spurs in Paycom Center, bringing a potential matchup between Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama, the two high-potential 7-footers.

The Charlotte Hornets host Oklahoma City on Oct. 15, where Holmgren, former No. 2 overall pick, will get to face the most recent No. 2 overall pick in Brandon Miller. This will be the only true away game for the Thunder in preseason play.

The Milwaukee Bucks round out the Thunder's preseason schedule, as they match up on Oct. 17 at Paycom Center. This is their only matchup against a team that's expected to see a contender.

The preseason is often a great chance to analyze and observe a team's young talent and role players fighting for minutes, and the Thunder is going to take 21 players into training camp.

Preseason will allow the players that aren't safe on the roster to make a case for themselves and show their ability to play within the system under head coach Mark Daigneualt's system.

Young guys like TyTy Washington and Usman Garuba can fight for a roster spot, whereas Cason Wallace, Vasilije Micic, Keyontae Johnson and even Chet Holmgren will get a chance to further work on getting acclimated to NBA game speed.

While most years provide a boring preseason that's mainly for the team's benefit, the Thunder will be an intriguing team to keep an eye on ahead of the regular season.
