Steve Kerr Announces Steph Curry Decision Before Warriors-Lakers Game

In this story:
On Sunday night, the Golden State Warriors face off against the Los Angeles Lakers in what is typically the most anticipated matchup of the season. Unfortunately, much of that anticipation will be lost as two very popular players won't be available.
It was already revealed that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James won't be available on Sunday due to injury. However, it's now been announced that Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry will also be out. According to Warriors coach Steve Kerr, Curry is banged up.
Via @anthonyVslater: "No Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Al Horford or Moses Moody tomorrow in Los Angeles. Curry is banged up, per Kerr, but plan is to play Tuesday in Portland."

Steph Curry's Latest Performance
On Wednesday, Curry only played for 15 minutes against the Portland Trail Blazers in a 129-123 win for the Warriors. In those 15 minutes, Curry put up 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists on 43/40/100 shooting from the field.
The biggest issue with the Warriors ever since losing Kevin Durant is that the team has become too reliant on Curry to keep the team afloat. For the entirety of Curry's career, he's essentially been the wheel that keeps the entire Warriors offense afloat. Hopefully, with the additions of Jimmy Butler, Al Horford, and a developing Jonathan Kuminga, Curry won't have such a high usage rate.
Steph Curry's Future With the Golden State Warriors
Curry currently signed a one-year, $62,587,158 extension contract that is set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 NBA season. The Warriors superstar has spoken very candidly numerous times about his future in the league and potential retirement.
"No clue,” Curry told ESPN’s Malika Andrews earlier in October. “I just know it's closer than it was even yesterday. "Acknowledging it is fun, because the more I talk about it, the more I appreciate what all goes into preparing yourself.”

It's worth noting that Warriors coach Steve Kerr signed a two-year, $35 million deal in February 2024. Both he and Curry are set to expire around the same time, but it remains to be seen if both will retire at the end of their contracts.
If anything, Golden State Warriors fans should not need to worry about anything retirement-related in the immediate future. The Warriors have a fantastic squad with Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler, and are expected to compete for an NBA championship this season.
