Brandon Jacobs broke tackles to score on a 7-yard reception to give the Giants a 7-0 lead. It was first touchdown allowed by the Patriots on an opening drive this season.

Wes Welker entered the game tied with Troy Brown for a Patriots franchise record 101 receptions. He broke the record on Tom Brady's second pass of the game and ended his night with a team-high 11 catches for 122 yards.

Randy Moss caught a play-action pass from Tom Brady for a 4-yard touchdown to give the Patriots a 10-7 lead on the opening play of the second quarter. As a result of the play, Moss tied Jerry Rice with 22 touchdown catches and Tom Brady tied Peyton Manning with 49 touchdown passes in one season. The Patriots also scored their 560th point of the season on the play, setting an NFL single-season record, previously held by the 1998 Vikings (556).

Domenik Hixon, in his first game as New York's primary kick returner, went 74 yards for a score 11 seconds after Brady and Moss tied their respective records. Hixon began his season with the Broncos and was the player Bills' tight end Kevin Everett collided with when he fell to the turf paralyzed in Week 1.

Kevin Boss, who replaced tight end Jeremy Shockey (broken leg), caught three passes on the Giants drive late in the second quarter, including a 3-yard strike in the end zone to give New York a 21-16 lead at the half.

Eli Manning hit Plaxico Burress with a 19-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter, putting the Giants up 28-16.

The Patriots responded with a 73-yard drive down the field, capped off by 6-yard touchdown run by Laurence Maroney to close the gap 28-23.

After just underthrowing a deep pass to an open Randy Moss in the fourth quarter, Tom Brady tried again on the next play to connect with Moss for 65-yard touchdown pass. Brady took the single season record with 50 touchdown passes and Moss with 23 touchdown receptions.

On the following drive, Eli Manning committed the first turnover of the game when he overthrew Plaxico Burress along the left sideline and the pass was intercepted by cornerback Ellis Hobbs, left.

The Patriots managed to kill 5:17 off the clock on the ensuing drive, which ended with a 5-yard touchdown run by Maroney to give the Pats a 38-28 lead.

Eli Manning found Burress wide-open in the end zone for a 3-yard touchdown pass to bring the Giants within three with 1:04 remaining. However, Patriots' linebacker Mike Vrabel recovered New York's onside kick, effectively ending the game 38-35. Manning finished with four touchdowns and 251 yards against one of the NFL's best defenses.

Tom Brady completed 32-of-42 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns as Bill Belichick's New England Patriots became the first NFL team since the 1972 Dolphins (14-0) to win every game on the schedule (16-0).
