An abbreviated look at what’s going on around the NFL on Thursday, Aug. 25:

• The Texans already have a leg up on most NFL teams because of Andre Johnson's hulking presence at wide receiver. They still would like to see Jacoby Jonesstep up and help complement Johnson in the passing game.

• Oakland has two of the league's better weapons on kickoffs in return man Jacoby Ford and kicker Sebastian Janikowski. While Ford could be limited by the new kickoff rules, Janikowski's ready to take full advantage of them.

Tim Tebow saw very limited time in Denver's second preseason game. Coach John Fox hinted that may change over the next weeks, saying that Tebow needs to get more chances in the passing game.

• The battle between San Francisco's Jonathan Goodwin and Adam Snyder to start at center looked like an easy win for Goodwin early. That's no longer the case, with Snyder bullying his way onto the first-team offense.

• Who's a lock for the Packers' Week 1 roster and who still has work to do? Here's a position-by-position breakdown.

• Miami traded for Reggie Bush, signed Larry Johnson and drafted Daniel Thomas this offseason. But the Dolphins' running back of the future may be Charles Clay.
