Huddle Up: Richard Seymour powering Raiders' turnaround
An abbreviated look at what’s going on around the NFL on Wednesday, Sept. 28:
• Trading for Richard Seymour two years ago has paid off huge for the Raiders. The veteran Seymour has been as important as any other player in helping to turn Oakland around.
• DeSean Jackson wants to be paid like one of the NFL's top receivers. The problem is that his numbers, at least thus far, don't line up with the elite players at his position.
• Detroit has not been in the playoffs since 1999. With the Lions off to a 3-0 start in 2011, there's a 76-percent chance that drought will end.
• The 2014 Super Bowl committee may have tempted fate a bit by including a snowflake in their event's logo design, but NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says "a little snow would be great for us."
• Greg Olsen has been one of the keys helping Cam Newton off to his surprisingly fast NFL start. The tight end's impact hasn't been lost on Newton, either, who praised Olsen's versatility.
• Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith had just one message for his Twitter followers after Dallas' come-from-behind win over Washington Monday night: "How u like us now."
• Kyle Orton has been having issues with his passes getting batted down at the line. One thing's for sure, though: Orton's height (6-foor-4) has nothing to do with his struggles.
