Torrey Smith leaves Ravens after tragic death of his younger brother

The Baltimore Ravens may be without WR Torrey Smith on Sunday night after Smith's younger brother, Tevin, tragically passed away in a motorcycle crash.

Torrey Smith left the Ravens early Sunday morning to be with his family, the Baltimore Sunreported. Football obviously takes on a trivial feel during something like this, but there was no immediate word whether Smith would return in time for Baltimore's Week 3 game against the Patriots. (UPDATE: Smith has rejoined the team and it appears as if he'll play.)

Smith's family is from Falmouth, Va., about 90 miles south of Baltimore. Growing up, Smith helped raise his siblings; their touching story was told last year by Today.

"This is devastatingly sad, sad news," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. "Torrey and his family are a close, special family, and our hearts and thoughts reach out to all of them. Our hearts ache today. We pray for Tevin, his mother, Torrey and the rest of the family. God bless Tevin."

Garrett Downing of BaltimoreRavens.com reported that Smith learned of his 19-year-old brother's death at around 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

Since news broke of Tevin's accident, Smith has received an outpouring of support on Twitter from fans, teammates and other players around the league:
