National Signing Day 2013 conference breakdowns

With National Signing Day in the books, Rivals.com takes a conference-by-conference look at how each BCS team's recruiting class came together:

ACC

1. Florida State: The Seminoles had a great Signing Day, finishing with five-stars Jalen Ramsey and Matthew Thomas.

2. Clemson: Signing Day went well for the Tigers; even though they lost out on Montravius Adams, they got Mackensie Alexander and flipped Korrin Wiggins.

3. Virginia Tech: As expected, the Hokies landed a solid class that includes five-star cornerback Kendall Fuller and future quarterback Bucky Hodges.

4. Virginia:In addition to their solid collection of in-state talent, the Cavaliers got some help on the offensive line by flipping Eric Tetlow and getting a commitment from George Adeosun.

5. Maryland: The Terps closed out their 2013 class with a bang, adding commitments from Yannick Ngakoue and Taivon Jacobs.

6. North Carolina: The up-and-coming Tar Heels put together a small but talented recruiting class headlined by T.J. Logan and Greg Webb.

7. NC State: Even with a coaching change, the Wolfpack finished out the 2013 class by flipping Ali Kassem and adding three three-stars in Jumichael Ramos, Monty Nelson and Jonathan Alston.

8. Miami: The Hurricanes had a good Signing Day, pulling in commitments from Stacy Coley and Augustus Edwards.

9. Wake Forest:Despite the unfortunate record, the Demon Deacons managed to fill a lot of holes with this recruiting class.

10. Duke:Coach David Cutcliffe put together a class that will help him continue to build a strong program in Durham.

11. Georgia Tech: Losing quarterback Damon Mitchell on Signing Day really hurt the Yellow Jackets.

12. Boston College:The Eagles had a tough ending to the 2013 recruiting cycle, losing quarterback Tim Boyle.

Big East

1. Pittsburgh:The Panthers landed a stellar class, highlighted by five-star Dorian Johnson and four-star Tyler Boyd.

2. Rutgers:The Scarlet Knights put together a solid class, but were hurt when they lost Ali Kassem.

3. South Florida: The Bulls were disappointed when they didn't land any big names on Signing Day.

4. Louisville:The Cardinals may have a small class, but they landed a big fish in hometown wide receiver James Quick.

5. Connecticut: Grabbing commitments from quarterback Tim Boyle and wide receiver Brian Lemelle was huge for the Huskies.

6. Syracuse: Losing Augustus Edwards right before Signing Day really hurt, but getting offensive lineman Kendall Moore was big for the Orange.

7. Temple: The Owls finished off their 2013 class by inking four players in the days leading up to Signing Day.

8. Cincinnati:The Bearcats finished the 2013 class by getting commitments from six players, including three-star athlete Tshumbi Johnson.

Big Ten

1. Ohio State: The additions of five-star Vonn Bell and four-star James Clark on Signing Day cemented one of the nation's top classes in 2013.

2. Michigan: The Wolverines wrapped up their class early and had few Signing Day fireworks, but built a class that finishes comfortable in the top 10 nationally.

3. Nebraska: Three-star Louisiana athlete Trevell Dixon jumped back into the fold on Signing Day after flirting with Arizona State and capped a strong collection of prospects headed to Lincoln.

4. Michigan State:The Spartans got much stronger at linebacker and running back with this class, and also brought in their quarterback of the future in four-star Damion Terry.

5. Indiana: Head coach Kevin Wilson brought in more four-star recruits in this class alone than his predecessors did in the previous 11 seasons combined. Florida three-star running back Daryl Chestnut was a big Signing Day addition.

6. Penn State: It has been a rough year for the Nittany Lions' program, but their 2013 class, headlined by five-star quarterback Christian Hackenberg, suggests better things for the future in State College.

7. Illinois: The Illini signed a full class of 25, including Rivals250 prospects Aaron Bailey and Caleb Day.

8. Wisconsin: Adding JUCO quarterback Tanner McEvoy late complements the job Gary Andersen and his staff did in keeping the majority of their commits in place through the coaching transition.

9. Northwestern:Matt Alviti is the perfect quarterback for the Wildcats' offense, and he comes in with a class that will make Northwestern stronger at wide receiver, defensive back and on the offensive line.

10. Iowa: The addition of Chicago linebacker Reggie Spearman on Signing Day eve will leave Hawkeyes fans more optimistic about this class, which lacks any four- or five-star signees.

11. Purdue: Keeping four-star quarterback Danny Etling in the fold was key, and Darrell Hazell's staff was able to do that.

12. Minnesota: Getting a late start on the 2013 class put Minnesota too far behind to make up significant ground in 2013, but running back Berkley Edwards is a big steal for the Gophers.

Big 12

1. Oklahoma: Oklahoma had a solid close, landing guys such as Dannon Cavil, Matthew Romar and Charles Walker after building a strong base early with commitments from Cody Thomas, Keith Ford, D.J. Ward and Stanvon Taylor.

2. Texas: It was a down year for Texas, but the talk out of Austin is that the Longhorns added some nice bulk and attitude to their offensive line with the addition of Rami Hammad, Kent Perkins, Darius James and even Jake Raulerson, who could play offense or defense.

3. West Virginia: Agroup headlined by Shelton Gibson grew stronger with Signing Day commitments from wide receiver Marquion Lane and linebacker Brandon Golson.

4. Baylor:Art Briles and his staff added a big one in Rivals250 defensive tackle Andrew Billings.

5. Oklahoma State:The Cowboys lost Rivals250 wide receiver Fred Ross, but signed two big-time receivers in Ra'Shaad Samples and Marcell Ateman and picked up some solid help along the defensive front.

6. TCU: Kyle Hicks leads a solid class all the way through. The Horned Frogs missed on some final targets but overall this was another solid effort by coach Gary Patterson and staff.

7. Kansas: The Jayhawks went heavy on the JUCOs, with the most notable additions being a couple of playmakers on the defensive front in Chris Martin and Marquel Combs.

8. Texas Tech: Coach Kliff Kingsbury and his staff did a tremendous job closing as Signing Day approached, pulling in sleeper Gary Moore and re-committing Rivals250 standout Devin Lauderdale.

9. Iowa State: The story of the Iowa State class is the beef along the offensive front, where headliner Jake Campos is joined by four other three-stars.

10. Kansas State: As they have in years past, the Wildcats signed a heavy dose of JUCOs; this time, they added standout defensive end Tanner Wood out of Conway Springs (Kan.).

Pac-12

1. UCLA: It was an outstanding Signing Day for the Bruins, who currently have the No. 1 class in the conference. Former USC commit Kylie Fitts committed on Tuesday night and the news continues to be good with four-star quarterback Asiantii Woulard committing Wednesday. Five-star Eddie Vanderdoes' decision still looms.

2. USC: No way around it, the Trojans had a bad few days leading up to signing day with multiple de-commits from five-star Jalen Ramsey and others. USC missed out on Matthew Thomas on signing day. But getting Quinton Powell soothes things a little bit and don't forget USC already has five five-stars in the class.

3. Washington: It could have been a huge day for the Huskies if Tyree Robinson and Tyrell Robinson flipped, but that didn't happen. Still, it's an impressive recruiting haul for the Huskies with defensive end Joe Mathis, keeping four-star cornerback Jermaine Kelly after he was offered by USC and locking up four-star wide receiver Damore'ea Stringfellow, rated the second-best wide receiver in California by Rivals.com. Losing Daeshon Hall to Texas A&M hurts.

4. Oregon: Talk about a strong finish. At one point, Oregon's biggest signing day victory looked to be holding on to the previously committed Tyrell Robinson and Tyree Robinson. The Ducks held off Washington to secure the two four-star prospects. Then the other dominoes started falling. The Ducks landed four-star tackle Cameron Hunt, a former California commit who projects to make a serious impact, and came out of nowhere to steal former USC commit Torrodney Prevot.

5. California: Losing Cameron Hunt to Oregon wasn't good for the Golden Bears and the class as a whole was about what everyone expected, considering the circumstances. Despite a postseason coaching change, Cal locked up a trip of four-star players, including quarterback Jared Goff, a longtime commit.

6. Arizona State: The Sun Devils lost a quarterback at the last second when Tennessee flipped Josh Dobbs. Arizona State wasn't given enough notice to explore other options at the position, but in the end, it wasn't a crippling blow to a class that features some decent depth and instant-impact-type junior college players. ASU also added three-star ATH Marcus Ball later in the day.

7. Arizona: Rich Rodriguez and company were quiet on Signing Day. In fact, the biggest waves Arizona made were courtesy of West Virginia poaching a pair of their recruits in Georgia Military College teammates Mario Alford and Brandon Golson. It wasn't a great start to the day for the Wildcats, but they received Letters of Intent from their top high school commitments, including four-star quarterback Anu Solomon. The Wildcats also added three-star quarterback Khari McGee, but could look to switch his potion somewhere down the road.

8. Oregon State: Oregon State's surprise commitment actually happened the night before Signing Day, when cornerback Charles Okonkwo flipped from San Diego State. Okonkwo was considered a backup plan for L.J. Moore, but still brings some size and instinct to a class headlined by defensive backs, most notably four-star corner Dashon Hunt.

9. Utah: It was a relatively quiet day for Utah, which signed Sese Ianu early in the day and that's big because he could be special for the Utes. Utah did an outstanding job across the board in the junior college ranks and Harrison Handley could be a sleeper in the coming years.

10. Washington State: The Cougars flipped Utah commit Marcellus Pippins on Signing Day, so that was a plus. Four-star quarterback Tyler Bruggman could be a special player in Mike Leach's offense and it was important he stayed after rumors surfaced he was flipping to Arizona State. Washington State also did well, again, in Southern California.

11. Stanford: It was a slow Signing Day for the Cardinal, but that was expected. Four four-star prospects lead the way for Stanford, which had the top-rated Pac-12 class last season but only signed 12 prospects this recruiting cycle. Quarterback Ryan Burns and wide receiver Francis Owusu could be a killer combination.

12. Colorado: The coaching change certainly didn't help things, but the Buffs' 4-21 record over the past two years is probably a bigger reason for their weak class. The positive spin is that 11 of Colorado's 17 additions hail from California, which could mean the school's move to the Pac-12 is paying off. The Buffs' last addition was an important one, as lockdown corner Chidobe Awuzie adds some much-speeded to the defensive backfield.

SEC

1. Alabama: All the Crimson Tide did was follow up their National Championship victory last month with their fifth recruiting national championship in the past six years. Among the big pickups were five-star linebacker Reuben Foster and Signing Day commitment Alvin Kamara.

2. Florida:The Gators came into the day with the nation's top class and added more talent in the form of four-star defensive tackle Jaynard Bostwick. The Gators missed out on Tashawn Bower, but finishing in the top five nationally is a win for Coach Will Muschamp.

3. LSU:Bower flipped from Auburn to Florida but ultimately ended up signing with the Tigers, capping off an excellent class of defensive linemen. Bower joins fellow four-star defensive lineman Greg Gilmore and five-star defensive end Frank Herron. The Tigers are still hoping to add late signee Priest Willis, but even without him already have a terrific class.

4. Ole Miss: The Rebels were the talk of the nation on Signing Day after landing the nation's No. 1 player, Robert Nkemdiche, first thing Wednesday morning. They lost four-star Elijah Daniel and couldn't flip five-star Chris Jones, but the Rebels were the surprise of the signing season after bringing in a great class.

5. Texas A&M:The Aggies finished off their class with four-star defensive end Daeshon Hall, completing an excellent 2013 cycle. The final numbers for the class are still sort of in flux, but Texas A&M figures to add around 30 players from this year's class.

6. Auburn: Just a few weeks ago, it looked as if the Tigers were headed for a disastrous Signing Day. But all those concerns were left in the dust on Wednesday. Five-stars Carl Lawson and Montravius Adams both signed with the Tigers, as did Daniel, who started the day as an Ole Miss commit.

7. Georgia:Even though they signed more than 30 players, it was sort of a tough day for the Bulldogs. They missed out on five-star Laremy Tunsil as well as Adams and missed late target George Adeosun. Despite the letdowns, the Bulldogs still finished with a top-15 class nationally, and picked up a late commitment from in-state talent Davin Bellamy.

8. South Carolina: The Gamecocks built a very nice class early and hung on through Signing Day. South Carolina missed out on target Yannick Ngakoue, but added wide receiver Skai Moore to close with a bang.

9. Vanderbilt:Any concerns over losing four-star running back Johnathan Ford were put to rest on Wednesday when the Commodores added four-star wide receiver Jordan Cunningham. Coach James Franklin continues to do a great job bringing never-before-seen talent to Nashville.

10. Tennessee: The early news wasn't good for the Vols as they missed on five-star defensive back Vonn Bell but it didn't take long for them to recover. Tennessee closed with three-stars Malik Brown, Joshua Dobbs and Jaylen Miller to round out a good first cycle for the new coaching staff.

11. Mississippi State:The biggest news of the day for the Bulldogs came when five-star Chris Jones decided to stick by the school that discovered him. Jones was being wooed by pretty much every school in the SEC, so landing in Starkville is a huge addition for the Bulldogs. Late addition four-star Fred Ross was also a major coup.

12. Arkansas:What was expected to be a joyful day for the Hawgs turned into a day of concern after four-star running back Alex Collins failed to fax in his letter of intent. Collins letter is still MIA, but the Razorbacks faithful can rejoice after landing four-star offensive lineman Denver Kirkland from Miami.

13. Kentucky: The Wildcats made up a ton of ground over the last month of the cycle and completed it by adding four-star DE Jason Hatcher and three-star wide receiver Ryan Timmons. Missing out on Asiantii Woulard hurt, but given where the class was when Mark Stoops took over Signing Day was a success for Kentucky.

14. Missouri:The Tigers lagged behind the rest of the SEC in the rankings on Wednesday, adding two two-star prospects to the class. Chase Abbington is the lone four-star player in a class that lacks any big-time star power.
