Denard Robinson drafted in Round 5 by the Jacksonville Jaguars

Denard Robinson, one of the 2013 NFL Draft's most intriguing wild cards, is headed to Jacksonville. The Jaguars used the 139th overall pick on the former Michigan athlete (and new cover star of EA Sports' "NCAA Football" video game franchise).

A tweet sent out by the team immediately after taking Robinson may be telling:

Robinson played quarterback at Michigan prior to suffering a nerve injury in his elbow last season. He then eventually moved into the Wolverines' backfield as a running back behind QB Devin Gardner.

But during Senior Bowl week, the NFL combine and Michigan's Pro Day, scouts asked Robinson to run through drills at receiver (as well as punt/kick returner) -- the thought being that Robinson's athleticism would make him a weapon there.

The Jaguars may eventually go that route, as well, but Robinson did some impressive work when used strictly out of the backfield at Michigan. He's a dangerous weapon with the ball in his hands, so why not cut straight to the chase by handing it off to him, rather than asking him to get open out wide?

Jacksonville also nabbed South Carolina speedster Ace Sanders on Day 3. Sanders figures to be the Jaguars' main return man, if nothing else. And with Sanders and Robinson in tow, the Jaguars have a lot more options on offense in terms of how creative they can be.

Both players are fully capable of going the distance at any point and thrive when they get the ball in space.
