He’s a bombastic, confident, All-Pro cornerback and is now on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Seattle’s loquacious lock-down corner Richard Sherman is the subject of a feature detailing the former Stanford standout’s background behind the bravado and Twitter tough guy act — which, coincidently, isn’t really an act; it’s just who he is.

Richard Sherman of the Seattle Seahawks

SI’s Lee Jenkins chronicles Sherman’s rise from a skinny kid growing up in Compton, Calif., to a fifth-round pick by the Seahawks in the 2011 draft. Now, he headlines one of the best defenses in the NFL and is a key cog in what should be a Super Bowl contender in 2013 and beyond.

Sherman addresses two of his more famous — or infamous, depending on how you look at it — news items, including his Twitter beef with Darrelle Revis and his suspension for allegedly taking Adderall, which was eventually overturned.

And luckily for Packers fans, there is no mention of the ‘Fail Mary’ game, although Sherman has been rubbing salt in the wounds of Cheesehead nation ever since.
