NFL Fines, Suspensions for 2013

Jon Bostic

On Aug. 21, Lance Briggs tweeted that his teammate, rookie linebacker Jon Bostic, had been fined $21,000 by the NFL for his hit on Chargers wide receiver Mike Willie in Week 2 of the preseason. Although Bostic appeared to lead with his helmet, he did wrap his arms around for the tackle, and there was no flag on the play. The league has not yet confirmed the fine, which would represent more than five percent of Bostic's $405,000 annual salary.

Von Miller

The Broncos outside linebacker was suspended on Aug. 20 for the first six games of the 2013 NFL season for violations of the league's substance-abuse policy.

Josh Gordon

The Browns receiver was handed a two-game suspension on June 7 for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Jo-Lonn Dunbar

The Rams linebacker will miss four games for violating the league's performance enhancing drug policy.

Bruce Irvin

Seattle defensive end Bruce Irvin will miss the first four games of the 2013 season after failing a drug test for performance-enhancing substances.

Isaiah Pead

St. Louis Rams running back Isaiah Pead has to miss the season opener after violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Will Hill

After being suspended in 2012 for his use of Adderall, New York Giants safety Will Hill was again suspended, on July 20, for four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Justin Blackmon

Justin Blackmon's third substance-related incident in less than three years has drawn him a four-game suspension to start the 2013 season. Blackmon caught 64 passes for 865 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie.

Gabe Miller

Reserve tight end Gabe Miller has yet to appear in a game for the Bears, and didn't help his odds by getting suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season. He violated the league's substance abuse policy.

LaVon Brazill

LaVon Brazill caught one of Andrew Luck's four touchdown passes in a 35-33 win over Detroit last season. He won't get a chance to repeat that feat until Week 5 of the 2013 season, after drawing a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Weslye Saunders

Tight end Weslye Saunders has made six receptions over 22 NFL games. The Colts cut him on July 25, not willing to wait for him to serve an-eight game suspension for a second violation of the league's policy against performance-enhancing drugs. In 2012, he was suspended for four games while with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a violation of the same policy.

Jarvis Jenkins

Redskins defensive end Jarvis Jenkins addresses the media after learning at camp that he had been suspended four games. "When I learned that I tested positive for a substance that is banned under the NFL policy, I was shocked and confused," Jenkins said. "It's an obscure substance that I've never even heard of, and I still don't know how it got into my body. My only guess is that it came from one of the supplements I was taking around the time of the test, even though none of them listed anything banned."

Brandon Collins

An undrafted wide receiver who played two seasons at Texas and Southeastern Louisiana, Brandon Collins will miss the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Rob Jackson

On March 20, Washington Redskins linebacker Rob Jackson was suspended four games by the league for violating its substance abuse policy. The <italics>Washington Post</italics> reported that the failed test might have resulted from Jackson's use of an unprescribed pain medication.

Rokevious Watkins

St. Louis Rams guard Rokevious Watkins was suspended for the first game of the 2013 season due to a violation of the league's substance abuse policy. In defense of his player, coach Jeff Fisher said, "Personally and respectfully, I disagree with the suspension and the circumstances regarding the suspension."
