Shortly before reports broke that the Patriots were releasing Tim Tebow, Vince Young tweeted his farewell to the fans of Green Bay, a pretty certain indication that he too had been handed his walking papers on the NFL's cut day.
Young, who sat out the 2012 season, was trying to revive his career as Aaron Rodgers' backup. It appeared he had done just that when Green Bay released Graham Harrell, previously its No. 2 QB. Young, though, struggled in the Packers' preseason finale, completing just 14-of-30 passes, fumbling twice (one resulting in a turnover) and taking a pair of sacks.
Green Bay just signed Young at the start of this month, following rumors that teams like the Raiders and Seahawks also had interest in the former Heisman Trophy runner-up. Young will be on the lookout for another team now, just a week before the regular season begins.
The Packers, meanwhile, now employ just two quarterbacks: Rodgers and 2012 seventh-round pick B.J. Coleman. The Tennessee-Chattanooga product had been pushing Harrell for the Packers' backup gig before Young was signed, and he could inherit it now. That said, Coleman does not have any NFL regular-season action under his belt, and he finished the previous a mere 14-of-34 through the air.
