The Houston Texans have waived veteran tight end Owen Daniels, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The team will save $4.5 million with the release of Daniels, one day after he said he was willing to restructure his contract in order to stay with the team. Daniels had one year remaining on a three-year deal worth about $15 million and would have counted $6.25 million against the salary cap for the 2014 season.

Daniels, 31, did not play beyond the Texans' fourth game last season after being placed on injured reserve with a fractured fibula. He finished with 24 catches in 2013, and amassed 385 catches for 4,617 yards and 29 touchdowns in his 100 games with the Texans. The Ravens and new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who was Daniels' coach in Houston before being fired after Week 14, could be among the teams interested in the free-agent tight end.

The release of Daniels could mean the Texans believe they can re-sign Garrett Graham, whose contract expires at 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.
