Jared Allen reportedly willing to retire if he doesn’t get contract he wants

Since NFL free agency opened at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon, veteran defensive end Jared Allen has received interest from the Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears, but he still seems a distance away from putting ink to paper and finalizing a deal.

Part of the reason that Allen has been slow to sign and has taken so many visits is that he doesn't believe the offers out there reflect his true value.

In fact, according to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, Allen is willing to walk away from football and call it a career if he does not get the amount of money that he desires.

This is no doubt a negotiating tactic from Allen to attempt to put the pressure on any potential suitors, but it is unlikely to force anyone's hand into overpaying for his services.
