Report: Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals in contract talks

Andy Dalton is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the Cincinnati Bengals are not going to waste any time working towards an agreement. According to the quarterback, he and the Bengals have already begun discussing a contract extension that would give him a nice pay raise.

"There have been talks about it. There have been a couple of proposals sent over and different things," Dalton told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Monday, via NFL.com. "We're working. Hopefully, we can get something done.

"I'm not too worried about it. I know in the right timing everything is going to happen. Obviously, everyone would like to get something done sooner rather than later."

The good news for Dalton is that Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis appears to be on board and is hoping that the team will lock up Dalton for the foreseeable future.

"We are hopeful we can get a deal done," Lewis said last week at the NFL meetings. "That doesn't preclude us from doing everything else we also want to continue to do -- and soon -- because we are sitting on a chunk of cap in order to get him done and continue to put the team together around him."

The Bengals have had success with Dalton running the show, and he has a solid relationship with the team's young offensive weapons, but they will need to find some more success in the postseason before Cincinnati can justify opening the checkbook wide to keep Dalton under contract.
