San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith breaks silence on Twitter

It's been a month since San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was accused of an alleged false bomb threat at Los Angeles International airport, and during that time, the fourth-year pro has remained silent.

That changed on Monday afternoon, when Smith broke his silence via social media.

Smith, who is facing potential misdemeanor charges for the alleged threat and also three felony counts from a previous arrest for possession of an assault weapon, attempted to put a positive spin on his situation.

The 49ers, unable to know the future of Smith's legal troubles, exercised their option on the fifth year of his contract last week, which will pay Smith nearly $10 million in 2015.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office referred Smith's bomb threat case to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office last week for misdemeanor consideration, though it's possible he will not be charged at all, as the city has requested more information before deciding whether to accept or drop charges.

As for the pending felony charges, Smith has a court date set for May 12 in Santa Clara County Superior Court for his three weapons charges along with a separate drunk driving incident which occurred last season and resulted in a solo car crash.
