Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan calls Justin Blackmon situation a 'tragedy'

When the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Justin Blackmon fifth overall in the 2012 NFL draft, they had hoped for big things from the wide receiver.

The Oklahoma State product didn't disappoint during his rookie season, posting impressive numbers that he built upon in October 2013 after serving a four-game suspension to start the season. However, a second violation of the league's substance-abuse policy left Blackmon suspended for the remainder of the year.

Now indefinitely suspended and not a member of Jacksonville's current 90-man roster, Blackmon has been all but ruled out for the 2014 campaign. Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan called the situation an "absolute tragedy" on Tuesday before adding that he found it hard to express his disappointment, according to The Florida Times-Union.

Team officials have slowly been distancing themselves from Blackmon and a potential return to the franchise, a sentiment which grew stronger on Tuesday afternoon after it was announced that Jacksonville had given Blackmon's locker to undrafted quarterback Stephen Morris.

While giving away a player's locker may not seem like a huge deal, it's certainly a sign that the Jaguars are readying themselves to move on from the talented but often troubled wide receiver.
