New York Giants release Will Hill, who blames positive marijuana test on second-hand smoke

The third time was not the charm for safety Will Hill.

Hill, who was suspended for the first six games of the regular season following a positive test for marijuana, was released by the New York Giants Monday. The suspension was the third of Hill's two-year career (he was suspended in 2012 for Adderall use, suspended in '13 for violation of the league's substance abuse policy.)

What was Hill's explanation for the failed drug test this time around? Second-hand smoke from people using marijuana inside of a club.

He is just a guy that doesn't get it.

Seriously.

“He felt like he had a great chance of beating it because of the circumstances,” former Giants teammate and friend Deon Grant said, via Jordan Ranaan of NJ.com. “He said, ‘I’ll be honest with you. If it was something that I did, I would tell you I messed up. But I didn’t. It was an incident in a club where people were [smoking marijuana] and it got in my system. It’s not like how my urine was a certain kind of way before when I did do it. It’s the total opposite right now. They found something in my urine, but it’s not the same thing they found when I did make that mistake.’”

The excuse doesn't hold much weight.

As Ranaan notes, second-hand smoke rarely leads to positive drug tests.
