Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas excused from camp to attend funeral

Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was excused from the opening day of training camp practice to attend his grandmother's funeral. Thomas attended a team meeting on Wednesday night and completed his arrival physical before departing.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was excused from the opening day of training camp practice to attend to personal matters, reports the Denver Post.

Thomas left the team so he can attend funeral services for his grandmother in Georgia. The Denver Post notes that Thomas' grandmother helped raise him as a child. 

The receiver attended a team meeting Wednesday night and also took his arrival physical.

Thomas is expected back at practice on Monday. He is in the final season of his contract and will be paid $3.275 million in base salary, plus $1.8 million in bonus money.
