Report: Vikings' Matt Cassel will start at QB for third straight game

Monday August 18th, 2014

After starting the Minnesota Vikings' first two preseason games at quarterback, Matt Cassel will start once again during the team's next game on Saturday, reports ESPN's Ben Goessling.

Cassel continues to get the nod over rookie Teddy Bridgewater, who has played in both games and completed 16-of-20 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns against Arizona last Saturday.

Through two preseason games, Cassel has completed 17-of-22 passes for 215 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.

Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer said that Bridgewater could see time with the first team Saturday, but would not commit to it.

Bridgewater recently said that he "needs to stop overthinking" his performance.

Christian Ponder, the Vikings' No. 3 quarterback who lost the starting job to Cassel last season, has said that he wants to play and is open to a trade.
