Chargers radio announcer suspended for on-air anti-Semitic comment
San Diego Chargers radio announcer Hank Bauer has been suspended from broadcasting the team's final preseason game Thursday after Bauer made an anti-Semitic comment on-air, the team announced in a statement.
The Chargers said the decision to suspend Bauer was made by broadcaster Clear Channel.
Bauer was calling Sunday's preseason game with longtime on-air partner Josh Lewin when Bauer made a joke implying Lewin is cheap because he is Jewish.
In the team's statement, the Chargers said they "know Hank had no ill-will behind his remarks," but agreed the comments were inappropriate.
On Tuesday, Bauer apologized on Twitter:
I made a hurtful insinuation that I regret and I would like to express how sorry I am. My poor choice of words were unfortunately open for— Hank Bauer (@hank_bauer) August 26, 2014
