Veteran cornerback Champ Bailey is in Detroit Thursday for a workout with the Lions, according to Lions.com writer Tim Twentyman.

Bailey was cut by the New Orleans Saints last week. According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the workout went well, but no deal was stuck.

"We worked him out and had a good look at him as well as some other guys," said Lions head coach Jim Caldwell

Bailey, 36, has spent 15 seasons in the NFL, spending his first five seasons without the Washington Redskins and nine seasons with the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos released Bailey, a 12-time Pro Bowler with 52 career interceptions, over the offseason.

The Lions have Rashean Mathis and Darius Slay penciled in as their starters for their Week 1 contest against the New York Giants on Monday night.
