The Oakland Raiders finished last season with a 4-12 record, last place in the loaded AFC West. The division sent three teams to the playoffs.

During the offseason, the Raiders stocked up on veteran talent, adding running back Maurice Jones-Drew, defensive end Justin Tuck, outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley and wide receiver James Jones.

Oakland also added quarterback Matt Schaub, but Schaub lost the starting job to rookie Derek Carr, who was selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

The Raiders have the toughest schedule in the NFL based on opponents' win percentages from last year. They open the season on the road at the New York Jets, who finished 8-8 last season.

Oakland has not made the playoffs since the 2002 season.
