Report: Marvin Austin excused by Broncos after father's car crash
Denver Broncos defensive tackle Marvin Austin was excused from team practice on Monday after his father, Marvin Austin Sr., was seriously injured in a car crash in Johnston County, N.C., on Sunday, The Denver Post reports. Austin took a red-eye flight back to North Carolina following the accident.
Derek Rowles of ABC11 Raleigh-Durham reports that Austin Sr. was driving the vehicle and took a curve too fast. State Highway Patrol said the vehicle rolled several times.
Four people in total were injured and taken to the hospital, including three children. According to Rowles, investigators said Austin Sr. sustained the worst injuries.
Austin appeared in both of Denver's first two games this season. He is a former Freshman All-American at North Carolina and was drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft.
