Jets quarterback Michael Vick says he wants Geno Smith to succeed

New York Jets backup quarterback Michael Vick told reporters that while he wants to play this season, he doesn't want it to come at the expense of Geno Smith's success. "I want success for Geno," Vick said. "My chance will come again."

New York Jets backup quarterback Michael Vicktold reporters that while he wants to play this season, he doesn't want it to come at the expense of Geno Smith's success.

"I want success for Geno," Vick told Rich Cimini of ESPN. "My chance will come again."

Others in the locker room also stood up for Smith, including Jets head coach Rex Ryan.

From ESPN:

"Everybody is behind Geno," Ryan said. "He's our quarterback and our football team believes in him. Geno is a mentally tough guy.

"We're happy we have Mike Vick on this team, but we believe in Geno," the coach continued. "We understand it wasn't great -- he made some mistakes -- but we just have to get better and learn from these and move on."

In three games this season, Smith has completed 65 of 103 passes for 713 yards. He has thrown three touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Jets, 1-2, host the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
