Bears' Jared Allen sidelined with pneumonia

Sunday September 28th, 2014

Bears defensive end Jared Allen won't play Sunday against the Packers due to pneumonia, reports Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, snapping Allen's streak of 113 straight starts.

The illness has caused Allen to drop 18 pounds in the last week, Glazer said, and the Bears deactivated him early Sunday after he underwent X-rays on his chest.

Allen, a five-time Pro Bowler, signed a four-year, $32 million deal with Chicago in March. In his first season with the team, he has racked up six tackles and one forced fumble.
