Wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins was waived by the Patriots on Saturday and the team promoted linebacker Ja'Gared Davis from the practice squad in a corresponding move, according to a report from Kevin Patra of NFL.com.

The 26-year-old Thompkins went undrafted out of Cincinnati in 2013 and was signed by the Pats in May 2013. He caught 32 passes for 519 yards and had four touchdowns last season in New England. He had started Week 1 in a 33-20 loss in Miami to the Dolphins and quarterback Tom Brady had called him one of his most trusted receivers, according to the report.
