Father of Rob Bironas speaks out after son's death

Rob Bironas' father speaks out
Sunday October 5th, 2014

The father of former Titans kicker Rob Bironas spoke out this weekend about his son's death, in a report from Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean.

Larry Bironas, 68, said he's going to kick his son's butt the next time he sees him, but can't understand how a man who had "distanced himself from the party scene" could get behind the wheel in such a drunk state.

Rob Bironas had driven off the road in a fatal car crash in September and was found to have had a blood-alcohol content of .218, more than 2.5 times the legal limit.

Redskins' Kirk Cousins says he need to regain self-trust

The father said his son's wife hasn't eaten in days and he wishes he could get inside Rob's mind to know what he was thinking that night that led him to his irrational decision to drink so much before driving in Nashville:

"Now I'll probably kick him in his butt when I see him next. It's hard. ... From everyone I talked to, Rob was very particular about not getting behind a wheel in that condition. He had distanced himself from the party scene. He was at home on this night, so why was he drinking so much? Why did he choose to drive this time? I don't know. I can't get in his brain now."

Bironas played for the Titans from 2005-13. He made the Pro Bowl in 2007.
