Ex-Bears quarterback Bob Avellini sentenced for aggravated DUI
Former Chicago Bears quarterback Bob Avellini faces an 18-month prison sentence for aggravated drunken driving, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.
Avellini pleaded guilty to a felony charge of driving under the influence as part of a plea deal, the report says.
Judge Daniel Guerin ordered that Avellini begin his sentence on Dec. 1 and that he wear an anklet capable of detecting alcohol in his system prior to that date, according to the report.
The charge stems from a September 2013 incident in which Avellini's BAC was more than twice the legal limit and his license was suspended, the report says. The incident happened less than two weeks after he was convicted of a separate DUI charge. Avellini reportedly has been arrested for DUI six times since 2002.
Avellini, 61, played for the Bears from 1975-84. Over nine seasons, he passed for 7,111 yards with 33 touchdowns and 69 interceptions.
