Report: Jay Gruden could be 'one and done' with Redskins
Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden could be "one and done" after this season, according to Jason Reid of The Washington Post.
Reports emerged this week that Gruden is "done" with quarterback Robert Griffin III and would prefer the team to make a "clean break" with Griffin this offseason. Griffin was benched for Colt McCoy before last Sunday's game vs. the Indianapolis Colts, and McCoy went 31-of-47 for 392 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions in a 49-27 loss.
Adam Schefter of ESPN, however, reported this week that "there's a real chance" Griffin will again be Washington's starting quarterback before the end of the season.
According to Reid, a conflict between Gruden and Griffin could force the team to part ways with the head coach, who is in the first year of a five-year contract.
Although it’s unknown whether Snyder and Allen eventually will agree to trade Griffin, what has become clear from recent conversations with Redskins officials is that Gruden believes he needs a clean break from Griffin to focus on fixing Washington’s 3-9 mess. And if Snyder and Allen commit to Griffin as the starter in 2015, Gruden could be “one and done,” a team official said, alluding to Gruden possibly being fired despite four years remaining on his guaranteed five-year contract.

Griffin has struggled in his third NFL season, completing 69.7 percent of his passes for 869 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions while going 1-4 as a starter.
Last season, conflicting anonymous reports regarding Griffin's status in Washington persisted throughout the season, and ultimately culminated with two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike Shanahan and his son, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, being fired.
Griffin is set to earn $6.7 million in 2015 under the terms of his rookie contract. Washington acquired him as the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2012, but traded three first-round draft picks and a second-rounder to do so.
The Redskins are 3-9, tied with the New York Giants for last place in the NFC East. Washington hosts the St. Louis Rams (5-7) on Sunday.
