The Bengals have placed linebacker Vontaze Burfict on season-ending injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday

Burfict had arthroscopic surgery on his knee on Oct. 29 and was expected to miss at least two games. He has not played in any of Cincinnati's six games since the surgery.

Burfict also missed this season two games with a neck injury and a concussion. He has played in only five games this year.

The linebacker started every game for the Bengals last season as a second-year pro. He was the team's leading tackler and was named to the Pro Bowl.

Vincent Rey has started at weakside linebacker in place of Burfict.

Rookie quarterback AJ McCarron was activated from the reserve/non-football injury list to take Burfict's spot on the roster.
