CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Buccaneers two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has left the game against Carolina in the first quarter with a knee injury and his return is doubtful.

McCoy seemed to get caught up in a pile of players in the middle of the line and he remained on the field for several minutes. A cart was brought to take him off the field, but McCoy refused to get on and instead hobbled to the sideline.

Tampa Bay started the game without three starters on defense, so the injury to McCoy doesn't help matters. McCoy has been replaced by Da'Quan Bowers.

The Bucs were leading 7-3 at the time of the injury.
