Eagles undecided on whether to start Fletcher

PHILADELPHIA (AP) The Eagles haven't decided whether beleaguered cornerback Bradley Fletcher will start at cornerback when the team ends the season against the New York Giants, Philadelphia defensive coordinator Bill Davis said Tuesday.

Davis said decisions are made together by the coaching staff.

''There is not a topic we don't discuss,'' Davis said. ''You have to remember we sit in this building all day, every day and watch every snap of practice and talk about everyone's strengths and weaknesses and at the end of the day we make those decisions.''

But coach Chip Kelly says he has final say.

''Every decision on who plays ultimately comes down to me,'' Kelly said on Monday. ''I don't just turn around and go, `Hey, how come that guy is in the game?' I know what's going on.''

Fletcher was benched at the end of the loss last week to Washington.

''At the end of the week we'll make a decision on it,'' Davis said Tuesday. ''We're looking at everything. We're looking at us. We're looking at (the Giants).''

Fletcher was beaten for three touchdowns by wide receiver Dez Bryant in the Eagles' loss to the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago, then allowed two pass completions of at least 50 yards to Washington's DeSean Jackson last week.

Davis said Nolan Carroll, who replaced Fletcher in the fourth quarter during the loss to Washington, and slot cornerback Brandon Boykin would both be considered if Fletcher does not start against the Giants.

''We'll use all four corners. They'll all be on the field in nickel and dime,'' Davis said. ''And the Giants are primarily a three wide receiver team, so they will be out there.''

When Fletcher is on the field, Davis said the team has to get him back to previous successes.

''You can't just yank and jerk guys in and out like that. Sometimes you do it too quick and sometimes you don't do it quick enough,'' he said. ''It's a fine line and that's what we as a staff have to decide. We just have to get Fletch back to where he was.''

NOTES: Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, said he wants to stay with the Eagles and is confidence a deal will get done. ''This is a great place to be,'' Maclin said. ''I want to end my career here.'' ... Quarterback Mark Sanchez will be headed back to the Meadowlands on Sunday to face the Giants. The same place he spent the first five years of his career. ''I know the stadium pretty well, and I've played the Giants before. But it's nothing special.''
