Giants interview Redskins assistant Morris for D coordinator

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) The New York Giants have interviewed Raheem Morris for their opening as defensive coordinator.

The Giants met with the current Washington defensive backs coach and former Tampa Bay head coach Friday. It was their first interview since firing Perry Fewell on Wednesday.

The Redskins granted the Giants permission to speak with Morris, who coached the Bucs from 2009-11.

Among other leading candidates for the job are former Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, a current assistant with Baltimore, and recently fired Atlanta coach Mike Smith.

The Giants are also looking for a secondary coach after firing long-time assistant Pete Giunta.
