Jets name Kacy Rodgers defensive coordinator, Bobby April ST coach

The New York Jets have hired Kacy Rodgers as their defensive coordinator and Bobby April as their special teams coordinator, the team announced Friday

In 2014, Rodgers was the defensive line coach for the Miami Dolphins and April was the special teams coordinator for the Oakland Raiders. April's son, Bobby April III, was the Jets' linebackers coach last season and has taken the same position with the Buffalo Bills under former Jets head coach Rex Ryan.

Rodgers had been with the Dolphins since 2008 and was a defensive assistant with the Dallas Cowboys from 2003 to 2007. While with Dallas, Rodgers coached with new Jets head coach Todd Bowles. Rodgers was a college defensive line coach from 1994 to 2002.

April has been an NFL special teams coach since 1991. He was named Special Teams Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2008 with the Bills. 

The Jets also hired five low-level assistants, according to NJ.com. Mike Caldwell will coach outside linebackers; Mark Collins will coach inside linebackers; Joe Danna will coach defensive backs; Karl Dorrell will coach wide receivers and Robby Brown was hired as an offensive quality control coach.
