NBC anchor Bob Costas said on the network's Super Bowl pregame show that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell declined a request to be interviewed.

Goodell has come under scrutiny throughout this season, particularly in regards to the league's handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence case.

The commissioner fielded questions from media members last week during his state of the league address. At one point, the commissioner addressed his effort to make himself available to the media on a regular basis.

"I understand the obligation and my job to meet with the media," Goodell said. "I don't know whether I meet with them at a press conference every week, but I'm available to the media almost every day of my job, professionally. We try to make ourselves available on a very regular basis. It is my responsibility, it is my job, and I will do that."

Kick off for tonight's game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., is at 6:30 p.m. ET.
