Wide receiver Brandon Marshall said on the radio program Carmen and Jurko Friday that he was nearly traded to the New England Patriots prior to the start of last season.

In March, the Chicago Bearsdealt Marshall to the New York Jets. From the Chicago Sun-Times:

“I could have played for the Patriots last year,” Marshall said. “There was an opportunity where there probably could have [been] a trade before the season.”

“It was my agent and the Chicago Bears because there a little tension on the contract staff,” Marshall said. “I thought I was worth a little more. There were a couple of teams that were offering more money.

“It never got that far, but there was a possibility with a couple teams.”

Marshall played three seasons with the Bears following stints with the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins

The 31-year-old missed the final three games of 2014 after suffering a lung injury and two broken ribs in the Bears' Dec. 4 loss to the Dallas Cowboys

Over 13 games, Marshall caught 61 passes for 721 yards and eight touchdowns.
